FAQ - Questions About Veneers
How long do porcelain veneers last?
With proper oral hygiene and check-ups every 6 months – 15-20 years, and often even longer. Composite veneers last 5-8 years.
Does getting veneers hurt?
No. The procedure is performed using computer-controlled anesthesia. Patients most often describe it as more comfortable than getting a filling.
Do veneers damage tooth enamel?
Modern veneers require the removal of only 0.3-0.7 mm of enamel, and in some cases (Lumineers), no tooth preparation is required at all. This is significantly less than with a dental crown.
Do veneers change color over time?
Porcelain veneers do not change color – porcelain is resistant to staining. Composite veneers may darken slightly over the years, but they can be repolished.
What if a veneer falls off?
We can bond it back in place during a short appointment, usually without the need to make a new one. If the veneer cracks, we make a new one – the process is faster because we already have your digital scan.
Can veneers be whitened?
No – veneers do not respond to whitening agents. Therefore, we plan to whiten your natural teeth before placing the veneers so that their color can be matched to the desired final shade.
